Now they've gone too far

They're holding the Twinkie hostage.

People accuse labor unions of sending their employers into bankruptcy.  The Hostess baker's unions took audacity to a new level:  their employer already is in bankruptcy, for the second time since 2004, but they're striking to kill the deal that would prevent an exit.  So Hostess is planning to liquidate, and 18,500 jobs will be lost instead of 627.  Management can go on strike, too.

The unions must remain all-powerful, at any cost...

They will sacrifice the individuals for the sake of the movement...

Well, except if you sacrifice the employer, whoever buys the liquidated factories and equipment is under no obligation to sign a contract with your union.

And one would hope any such buyer would have the good sense to run a non-Union shop. Sadly, I'm not sure the State would allow them that option (in which case, I'd say good luck selling that factory).

You could still sell the equipment, assuming it can be shipped to a wiser state.

Indeed. Think back to the Airlines strikes of the late 1980's and early 90's.

It's really scary how precient Ayn Rand was in Atlas Shrugged. We've seen things already, with the lawsuit against Boeing, not for actually moving a plant from one location to another, but for not expanding an existing plant (in a union state) in favor of a new plant elsewhere (in a non-union state).

Don't give them any ideas. Here in California, we just voted in a measure to tax out of state companies for doing business in California- Income tax. Outlawing the transport of production equipment out of the state is probably only a few years away, at this rate.

“What does it matter if three-quarters of the world perish, so long as the remaining one-quarter is Communist?” -Vladimir Lenin

Just replace Communist with Union- so they killed a company- at least there is one less non-union company. That's their take.

Rich Leftist operatives like Soros will buy them up. So the unions win either way.
